She’s gorgeous and awesome to work with!  The temperature outside was -6 degrees…just warm enough to brave the outdoors with a smile.  Children and teen photography sessions are so much fun…I love working one on one as we really can connect and get those desired expressions.

Calgary has some wonderful parks and we totally took advantage of the snow.  For whatever reason…the dogs offleash just couldn’t get enough of us! In between poses we had to take breaks to throw sticks for strange dogs :)

Enjoy :)

The story goes like this…

This morning my son and his friend were having a lovely time making a fort in the living room.  We just finished a snack, as I was tidying up  I could hear them pretending…one would be a doggy while the other was being the owner.

Suddenly my son runs to our washroom hysterical trying to wash his tongue.  At first I thought he fell and bite his tonque.  I checked for blood and teeth marks but nothing.  Then the saliva came….it starts pouring out his mouth like he hadn’t swallowed in days.  My son’s friend tells me Mason didn’t hurt himself he just ate a plant.

What?

Yup, a plant.  Mason was playing his doggy character so intensely that he figured he should eat our houseplant.  FYI, some can be poisonous.

In the end a call to the poison control centre, a referral to Children’s Hospital, and some friendly time with the hospital staff and Mason is alright.  The pain and drooling didn’t stop for about 6 hours.  He spoke clearly after 7 hours.

Just thought I would put this out there as it never occurred that our plants were dangerous.  Here’s a picture of the kind Mason ate today, the common name is “Dumbcane”  or Dieffenbachia.   In the future while playing “doggie and owner” I will encourage chewing on our dog’s rawhides and toys….

What brings you joy?  It’s a reflection that we should all do every once in a while.  I find it so easy to get caught up in the “little” things that in the end…I am not doing what brings me joy.

This evening I had a moment of bliss, pure sunshine that made me smile.     Turn up your volume to hear this one :)       Mason#2

:: Just so you know….my son was “supposed” to be in bed.  He just HAD to come out and sing me a song with a kiss on my lips :)  Awhhh, I wish I could keep him little forever. ::

Calgary photographerCalgary photographerCalgary photographerCalgary family and child photographerCalgary child and family photographerCalgary child, baby, teen, and family photographerAs many of you all know, we went on an extended family holiday in December.  It started in San Diego visiting family and exploring the pub beach for an afternoon ;)  The kids had a blast collecting shells and other sea life…while mom and dad enjoyed the warmth of the sun!

A car rental (an upgrade to an large SUV…that made a certain brother-in-law jealous :) ) took us to Anaheim for a few extra days!  Disneyland is such a fabulous place, mom and dad were both beaming from ear to ear…of course the kids were excited too!  It was funny this trip, I knew ahead that I really wanted to be “there” with my family…no scouting out light, locations and trying to get the kids to smile.  My goal was to enjoy my time, put the camera down (at least the nice HEAVY one) and really be present.

Finally…. the above images are from Loreto, Mexico.  My in-laws winter in Loreto and graciously invited the entire family to join them for Christmas.  We spent two glorious weeks in a beautiful home metres from the beach.  Loreto is not a large tourist town, but is a friendly and very welcoming village full of happy locals.  Our days were spent on the beach swimming, sea shell hunting and digging for clams.  The mountains were great for hiking….and abundant with wildlife (a close encounter with a tarantula will be remembered!).

Our last eventful day was spent on a beach a 1/2 hour boat ride from Loreto to Coranato Island.  On the boat we saw porpoises, sea lions and great cliffs formed from volcanic rock.  The sand on the beach was white and the sea was calm which made snorkelling unbelievable!  What more could you ask for in a vacation:)

I look forward to another great year photographing Calgary’s fabulous families!  As always… there are new items for the studio and awesome promos for the year.  Stay tuned!

Happy New Year to you all!

Enjoy :)
